The biggest summer event of Rauma, the Lace Week, began Saturday 23.7.

Saturday 23.7. marked the beginning of the city festival Lace Week, which is arranged this summer for the 52nd time. Lasting nine days, the event includes over 130 ceremonies and events – there are exhibitions, workshops, events for children, art and music. Program is arranged by tens of different operators.

– Event selection has something for everyone. There is different sorts of traditional program as well as some brand new events, says Leila Stenfors, the responsible cultural producer of Rauma.

The Lace Week offers versatile experiences. Representing the traditional events there is for example the outdoor lunch lapskoussi, which is made by the Martha Organization of Rauma. The chargeable lunch is served in the yard of the Holy Cross Church every day between 25.–29.7. This summer is the 50th time when the Martha Organization is taking part. The local language of Rauma, Rauman giäl, can be heard among other thing in form of chatters from Rauma performed by Ossi Paavola. The chatters will be heard around the city every day at 14 o’clock.

– As novelty in the Lace Week there will be for example crafts workshops for adults and children in the yars of Tammela. There are workshops in multiple days. The Savilanpuisto consert area which offers free program is also renewed, and there will be program in three consecutive nights from Wednesday to Friday, Stenford says.

The lace making societies of Rauma are arranging a joint exhibition this year. Lace in festivities (Pitsit juhlan pyörteissä) –exhibition by Nyplääjät ry and Together –lace exhibition by Lace Center Emelia take over Poselli for the whole Lace Week.

The handicraft market is back in the Lace Week’s program after a couple of years break. The market booths will open in Kalatori at Friday 29.7. The atmospheric market brings together handicraft entrepreneurs from across Finland. Hand made products will be sold in the market untill Saturday 30.7.

The market atmosphere can be enjoyed widely thorought the downtown area, when the International Market land to the Lace Week on Wednesday 27.7. and is open untill Saturday 30.7. On Friday 29.7. the market will extend to the Market of the Night of Black Lace, which will continue to late evening.

Yards and yard sales in the Old Rauma will be open thorough the event

The Old Rauma society, Vanha Rauma Yhdistys ry, is arranging open yards and yard sales –event in 23.-31.7. This time there is in all 36 of Old Rauma yards. The meaning of the event is to give locals and travellers a change to get to know the life in Old Rauma.

Open yards are marked in a map. You can check the map online (pdf) or get a paper copy of the map from any open yard of Renoation Centre Tammela.

Yards will be open by the residents’ timetables. You recognize a open yard from the Old Rauma society plaque on the open gate.

Music for all age groups in Savilanpuisto

Savilanpuisto will be filled with free of charge and age limitless conserts and events. On Wednesday 27.7. YOUTH OF SAVILA –youth event will be performing bands from Rauma area and super popular Robin Packalen. On Thursday 28.7. on the stage will be the Miss Lace 2022 competition and Rauma Marching Band will be performing.

On the Night of Black Lace 29.7. in the Savilanpuisto park plays! –event’s day consert Naattiorkesteri will be playing childrens music. The evening consert will be started by AT’s Roots & Ramblin’, who plays rock from 50’s. Later a pop-folkduo Eva + Manu will be performing as well as the charismatic artist Pete Parkkonen.

– Conserts in Savilanpuisto will again attract a lot of audience to the area, so you should come early to your favourite conserts, Stenfors tips.
