People in Kuninkaankatu.

The pedestrian street time will close Kuninkaankatu and Kauppakatu to vehicular traffic in Old Rauma this summer from June 24th to August 4th. Maintenance and residential traffic are allowed as in previous years.

Both streets will be closed to traffic between Savilankatu and Vähäkirkkokatu. Vähäkirkkokatu will remain one-way from Kuninkaankatu to Kauppakatu as in previous years, allowing car traffic to the market square. During the pedestrian street period, access to the market square will be from the direction of Kuninkaankatu. Temporary traffic arrangements will be indicated with traffic signs, and traffic prohibition will be reinforced by placing flower pots on the streets.

Unlike previous years, the section of Kuninkaankatu between Isokirkkokatu and Vähäkirkkokatu will also be a pedestrian area. The market square parking lot will remain in use but can only be accessed from Vähäkirkkokatu.

“The arrangement is hoped to reduce through traffic and calm the pedestrian area. At the same time, it will improve the safety and comfort of the area,” says work manager Jari Salminen.

“The pedestrian street time and changes to street arrangements are in accordance with an application from Rauma Entrepreneurs Association. Businesses in the pedestrian street area also have the opportunity this year to set up sales points or furniture on the sidewalk in front of their stores, but not on the roadway,” reminds planning manager Riikka Pajuoja.

It is recommended to leave your car at home or use public parking areas in and around Old Rauma during the pedestrian street period. The temporary parking lot on the mall’s property along Valtakatu will be expanded with summer tourists in mind. The city center can also be conveniently accessed by Gyyt buses, which are completely free during July. The summer schedules for local traffic can be found at www.rauma.fi/rauman-gyyt.
