Chef and restaurateur Teemu Laurell, originally from Rauma, returns to his roots to explore today’s Rauma. In this two-part series, Teemu dives into the city’s atmosphere – from the market square to the sea and the historic surroundings of Old Rauma.
Along the way, he meets local makers, samples the city’s food offerings, and reflects on what makes Rauma so unique. Take a look at what Rauma looks and tastes like right now!
Teemu Laurell is a Finnish top chef and restaurateur who won the Top Chef Finland competition in 2012. Since then, he has founded restaurants, appeared in cooking shows, and participated in various collaboration projects.
Episode 1: “If Rauma Was a Wine, How Would You Describe It?”
Teemu returns to Rauma and explores the city from its very heart – from the market square to the seaside and its local flavours. In the episode, he meets market vendor Tapani Penttilä, who has been part of everyday life in Rauma for nearly five decades, as well as professional fisherman Jarno Aaltonen, who shares insights into local fishing waters and the significance of wild whitefish as a regional delicacy.
The journey continues to the Kylmäpihlaja lighthouse together with cultural figures Otto Kanerva, Artistic Director of Rauma Theatre, and wine influencer Maija Männistö (@viinitollo). Together, they reflect on how culture, flavours, and a sense of place can be experienced in Rauma today.

Episode 2: “Kyl Raum o ain Raum.”
Teemu heads to the charming streets of Old Rauma, where he encounters the city’s history alongside its vibrant café and restaurant culture. The episode opens up how traditions, flavours, and a strong sense of community come together to form the essence of Rauma.
