The Christmas in Lace Town will once again be celebrated in Rauma from November 23, 2024, to January 6, 2025. The Rauma Christmas Market, Tammela’s Elf Land, Christmas tree alley along Vähäraastuvankatu, and the musical Joulevangeeljum will enchant visitors again this year.

– In Old Rauma, the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, you can experience a magical Christmas atmosphere. Beautiful lighting, the Christmas Market, and numerous events invite everyone to enjoy the festivities. Lace Town Christmas is a beloved event that has earned a place in the hearts of both residents and visitors. Last December, we observed a clear increase in visitor numbers and accommodation statistics in Rauma, and we expect the same this year, says Irene Villanen, Rauma’s Tourism Manager.

The Rauma Christmas opening will be held on Saturday, November 23, starting at 12 pm. Christmas lights will be switched on at 4 pm and will stay lit daily until January 6, 2025, illuminating various spots around the city.

Shop and Enjoy at the Christmas Market

Rauma’s Christmas Market invites visitors to indulge in holiday treats and discover festive finds. From the ten market stalls, you can find beautifully handcrafted gifts and sample Christmas delicacies from local producers. Various performers entertain visitors from the market stage, and there’s a delightful program for all ages. From the edge of the square, you can also hop on the Elf Train.

The Christmas Market will be open on weekends until December 9, and then every day until Christmas Eve.

Experience the Magical Tammela’s Elf Land

Tammela’s Elf Land, set in the traditional courtyard and buildings of Old Rauma, delights visitors with its festive decorations and lighting. Activities include elf tours, craft workshops for both children and adults, peeking into the secret world of elves through special windows, storytelling sessions, and a gingerbread café. There’s also a popular ornament exchange market.

Be Captivated by the Joulevangeeljum Musical

The Joulevangeeljum musical will be performed in Rauma for the third time this year. New faces grace the leading roles: soprano Vilja Riutamaa as Mary and tenor Hannu Lepola as Joseph.

The open, free performances will take place in Old Rauma from December 19 to 21. The play, presented as a procession that stops at four different locations within Old Rauma, reflects Rauma’s 580-year history through a musical based on the Christmas story, with the audience playing an integral role. The songs in the musical are performed in Finnish.

The dress rehearsal will be on Thursday, December 19 at 5 pm, with the premiere on Friday, December 20 at 6 pm. The second and third performances will be held on Saturday, December 21 at 4 pm and 7 pm.

The play was written by Arto Myllärinen, with music composed by Lasse Heikkilä, and directed by Arto Myllärinen and Ani Hassinen.
