On Wednesday, June 19th, a memorial site for those who drowned at sea, went missing at sea, and found their final resting place in the sea was inaugurated. The ceremony featured a speech by Reverend Valtteri Virta.
The memorial site was initiated by the trustees of the Rauma parish. A suitable location for the monument was found in collaboration between the parish and the city of Rauma at Maanpää, a scenic recreational area owned by the city.
The site can be accessed from the end of Laituritie, by walking a few dozen meters towards the tip of the cape. The area is relatively easy to reach and is one of the few places near the city center that offers a view of the open sea.
