The Market Square Christmas Tree Has Arrived – This Year the Tree Stands at the Center of the Square
News

The traditional Christmas tree was brought to the Market Square today, Tuesday 11 November. This year, the tree has been placed exceptionally in the center of the square. The tree is approximately five meters tall and was grown in the yard of a private detached house in Eura.
The location of the tree had to be changed because the traditional base, a well into which the tree is usually installed, is currently located beneath a temporary bypass due to the renovation of Rauma Town Hall. For this reason, the tree had to be installed above ground, which requires special arrangements.
– A larger tree cannot be installed above ground because the risk of it toppling over would be too high, says Green Area Manager Kustaa Elsilä.
The tree can be admired from all sides of the square, and it will be decorated with lights and a star on top. The city center’s Christmas lights will be switched on during Rauma’s Christmas opening event on Saturday, 22 November at 4:00 p.m.
