The City of Rauma once again joins the celebration of Baltic Sea Day on 28 August. Baltic Sea Day, launched by the John Nurminen Foundation, is celebrated annually on the last Thursday of August with various events and activities.

The aim of Baltic Sea Day is to inspire people to enjoy our unique home sea and to encourage concrete actions for the benefit of the Baltic Sea. The themed day also seeks to increase knowledge about the sea’s diverse nature, culture, and history.

In Rauma, Baltic Sea Day will be celebrated with Baltic Sea–themed events and activities.

Together for a cleaner Baltic Sea

The City of Rauma encourages participation in the Siisti Biitsi clean-up campaign on Baltic Sea Day. Coordinated by the Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association, the campaign focuses on cleaning beaches, collecting data on littering, and raising awareness of the issue. Detailed instructions for participation are available on the Siisti Biitsi website.

The City of Rauma will lend litter pickers and trash bags to participants. Staff from the City’s Green Department will distribute equipment at the parking area along Suvitie between 12 pm and 3 pm and provide guidance on where to leave the collected trash bags.

Street drains in Rauma will be marked with colourful stickers between 18 and 31 August. The purpose of the drain cover stickers is to draw attention to the routes litter takes and to encourage the reduction of littering. This is part of the Stomach Aches from Plastic campaign, coordinated by the Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association in cooperation with various cities.
