The Lace Week city festival will bring several changes to traffic arrangements in downtown Rauma. The construction of event areas will lead to street closures, affect parking, and relocate local bus stops. During the event, only essential service traffic and escorted access to properties will be allowed on closed streets.

Event Area Set-Up Begins Tuesday, July 22

Construction of event areas begins on Tuesday, July 22, with several street sections closing to traffic starting at 7:00 AM. The International Grand Market opens to the public on Wednesday, July 23 at 10:00 AM.

A section of Nortamonkatu between Vänninkatu and Pakkahuoneenkatu will be closed off with barriers. Staff-monitored barriers will also be placed at the intersection of Valtakatu and Tehtaankatu, as well as at the intersection of Kalliokatu and Lyseokatu. The section of Kanavakatu along the canal will be closed to traffic. Savilankatu will be closed between Pakkahuoneenkatu and Kuninkaankatu. Laivurinpolku will be accessible only on foot.

Motor vehicle traffic, electric scooters, and bicycles are not allowed in the event area. However, bicycles may be walked through the area.

Service traffic for businesses located in the event area is requested to be completed in the mornings before 10:00 AM from July 22 to 26. Emergency access routes will remain open on all closed streets.

Changes to Local Bus Stops on Savilankatu

Lace Week will also affect Rauma’s local bus stops. The Rauman Gyyt local bus stops on Savilankatu will move next to Karin koulu (Kari School) from July 21 to 27. The express bus stop on Nortamonkatu will not be in use during the market days.

Parking spots along Savilankatu in front of Karin koulu will be unavailable starting Friday, July 18. Alternative parking will be provided in the schoolyard.

The Savilanpuisto taxi stand and adjacent parking area will remain in use throughout Lace Week.

Traffic Arrangements Ensure Visitor and Vendor Safety

The temporary traffic arrangements are designed to ensure a safe event environment for both visitors and vendors.

– We are once again expecting tens of thousands of visitors to Lace Week events. To ensure a safe experience, it’s important that the public observes and follows the changed traffic arrangements, reminds Outi Lehtorinne, cultural producer for the event.

All temporary traffic arrangements will be dismantled by Monday, July 28.
