Christmas in Lace Town is Built Responsibly and Together
News

Responsibility, sustainability, and community spirit have been carefully considered in the planning and implementation of the Christmas in Lace Town event programme. Residents and visitors alike can enjoy the festive atmosphere, enchanting light displays, and numerous Christmas events until 6 January.
– The development of tourism in Rauma is guided by responsibility and the principles of sustainable tourism. The impacts and growth of tourism are closely monitored, especially at event sites in Old Rauma. Our goal is to safeguard the carrying capacity of the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the quality of residential life, says Krista Mård, Coordinator of Christmas in Lace Town.
The city’s Christmas lights use energy-efficient LED technology. Operating hours for illuminations and light artworks have been planned with nearby residents in mind. The new lighting installations along the Canal Waterfront were also discussed with the neighboring housing company.
– We want to minimize any potential light or noise disturbance and ensure residents’ comfort at the heart of our events, Mård adds.
Getting to Events Easily with Gyyt
This year, visitors attending Christmas in Lace Town events are encouraged to use Gyyt public transport. Drivers are also advised to park on the edges of the city center and continue to the event locations on foot.
– Towards the end of the year, Gyyt buses feature campaign decals promoting the initiative. The Christmas Gyyt campaign is also visible on social media, says Mård.
Christmas Is Made Together
Christmas in Lace Town highlights local expertise, traditions, and the joy of doing things together.
As in previous years, visitors can admire the Advent calendar windows organized by the Vanha Rauma Association in Old Rauma. The Joulevangeeljum musical play will once again be produced with the help of hundreds of volunteers, and students are involved in the creation of Tammela’s Elf Village. This year, the Elf Village also includes a recycling point for Christmas decorations.

– The magic and atmosphere of Christmas are created together. Cooperation among the people of Rauma is the driving force behind Christmas and a key factor in making it more sustainable. Most attractions are free of charge, ensuring that everyone has an equal opportunity to enjoy the events and activities of Christmas in Lace Town, Mård explains.
