You can explore the Old Town Hall through a video-guided tour series – the museum site will close for restoration on March 1, 2024

A series of guided tour videos has been released for Rauma’s Old Town Hall, allowing visitors to explore the building during its closure for upcoming restoration. The Town Hall will close its doors on March 1, 2024, and reopen to the public in 2026.

– We are delighted that our valuable museum site can be kept open for a planned longer period. Originally, the Town Hall was supposed to close at the beginning of the year, says Museum and Cultural Director Risto Kupari.

The new video series comprises four episodes, each lasting approximately 4–7 minutes. The episodes delve into the building’s history, its use, and the people who worked there.

Videos with English subtitles can be viewed on the City of Rauma’s YouTube channel at youtube.com/cityofrauma.

Rauma Museum has previously released a guided tour video for the shipowner’s home museum Marela and a video series on the history of the Sailor’s and Craftsman’s Home Museum Kirsti.

– The video series about the Town Hall complements the video content of Rauma Museum’s sites and allows for advance exploration regardless of time and place. In addition, the videos provide site-specific information that may not be readily available during a self-guided visit, says Museum Assistant Noora Jokinen.

The videos were produced by the museum’s own staff with the assistance of the city’s AV and technical coordinators. The script was written by Satu-Miia Rajamäki, a museum official at Rauma Museum, and Noora Jokinen, a museum assistant. Satu-Miia Rajamäki appears in the videos, and Noora Jokinen provides the narration. Jokinen is also responsible for the filming and technical execution of the videos.

– Making the videos has been tremendously fun and different from our usual everyday work. Additionally, creating the videos allowed us to explore the specific site in more detail and learn something new about a familiar location, Rajamäki and Jokinen share.
