The Rauma City Hall will be illuminated during the Lumen Light Art event.

Rauma Energia, Osuuskauppa Keula, and the City of Rauma organize the Lumen Light Art event in Rauma from January 10 to 13, 2024. Diverse artworks will spread across the downtown area and will be on display daily from 5 pm to 9 pm. The library artwork will be illuminated from 7 pm to 9 pm. The event map is published at lumenrauma.fi.

– The event is invested in for the long term, and the planning is evident in the content of the event. There is something to see and experience for all ages this year as well. Lumen brings desired liveliness and brightness to the dark evenings of January, says Risto Kupari, the Museum and Cultural Director of the City of Rauma.

International artists Ari Dykier (Poland) and Tatsuru Arai (Japan/Germany) have been invited as part of the Mapsion video mapping competition, selected by media artist Niko Tiainen. The mappings will be displayed at Tarvonsaari School and the Old Town Hall. Argentine media artist Jorge Castro, invited to the RaumArs artist residency, will showcase his work in the windows of Kuninkaankatu 24.

The entire inner courtyard of Rauma City Hall will transform into a sea of illuminated flowers. The main sponsor Rauman Energia’s Flower power – kukkavoimaa! artwork will be created by Helsinki light artist Immanuel Pax. Additionally, the old city hall next to the new one will be surrounded by colors and sounds.

Water and music create an enchanting spectacle in front of Rauma Theatre. ‘The Dancing Water’ performances can be enjoyed daily at 5 pm, 5:30 pm, 6 pm, 6:30 pm, 7 pm, 7:30 pm, 8 pm, 8:30 pm, and 8:50 pm. The performances are made possible by Rauman Energia.

Niko Tiainen’s artwork “Vuoksi” is part of the Karin Kampus art program. It is a permanent piece projected onto the campus facade and will be displayed according to a schedule announced after the Lumen event.

In Kitukränn street, artist Mollu Heino’s artwork “Eleet” will be featured, where hand gestures convey openness, acceptance, and a desire for communication.

A light ceiling will be created in the inner courtyard of Rauma Art Museum using lasers, which can be experienced throughout the event.

– At the main library, an interactive playable piece called ‘Kaanon’ will be featured. A captivating scene will also be constructed in the courtyard of the Chruch of the Holy Cross, adds Annukka Ketola, the producer of Lumen Rauma.

One of the event organizers is the local event technology specialist Mixa. Mikko Kiviharju will execute a collection of four artworks and oversee the technical production of the event. The Mixa team includes lighting designers Joonas Nordlund and Tommi Löytty, as well as media artist Niko Tiainen.

– The Lumen Light Art event includes showmanship, subtle play of light, bold surfaces, interactivity, spatial experiences, and illuminated objects. The whole provides interesting sights during a walk. One can explore the artworks every evening during the event if desired, says Ketola.
