Lace Week has begun – the anticipated event lasts until Sunday 30.7.

Lace Week, one of the most anticipated events of Rauma’s summer has begun! Lace Week was opened with a ceremony on 22.7, with the coronation of the Statue of Bobbing Lace Maker, a lace dance, and a speech from the president of the city government Kalle Leppikorpi.

During the Lace Week you can see lace and bobbing lace making in various places. At the Old Education Center (Vanha kansalaisopisto, at Vähäkoulukatu 8), you can see the Muistot kultaa aikaa- exhibition made by Nyplääjät ry. At the city’s staff restaurant Kerttu Pruutmerska (Kanalinranta 3, the inner courtyard of the City Hall), an exhibition called Pitsin lajit ja lahkot sekä keralla kulkijat is showcased by the lace center Emelia ry. You can also see lace at the exhibition Raumalaisia mestarinyplääjiä – Aallon sisarukset Anna Palmu ja Ester Aaltonen, which can be found at the Old Town Hall (Kauppakatu 13).

At every lace exhibition there is also a bobbing lace maker present every day, so you can see them actually make the bobbing lace then and there. Bobbing lace makers are also present every day at two shops in Old Rauma: Kajava Lahja ja Käsityö (Kuninkaankatu 28), and Pits-Priia (Kauppakatu 29). In Tammela (Eteläkatu 17), you can meet a bobbing lace maker on Tuesday 25.7, at 11-15 o’clock. On Friday 28.7. those interested in bobbing lace should head to the courtyard of the Art Museum of Rauma (Kuninkaankatu 37), where the title of the fastest bobbing lace maker will be decided, at 14.00 o’clock.

Along with seeing lace, you can also head to the handicraft- and art exhibitions. The art studios are also exceptionally open during the Lace Week. During the Lace Week there is also all kinds of program for children. There handicraft workshops at the city’s staff restaurant Kerttu (Kanalinranta 3), in Taitokeskus of Rauma (Lensunkatu 4), and in Mantin Maailma (Kuninkaankatu 30).
