Lace and pets – new exhibitions of the Rauma Museums

The Rauma Museum is heading towards the summer with new exhibitions. The shipowner’s home museum Marela opened a photo exhibition Me and My Pet at the beginning of May. The Old Town Hall has Rauma Lace basic exhibition.

The photo exhibition Me and My Pet, which opens in Marela, presents the soft side of the Rauma Museum’s photo collection, cute and lovely pets and their owners from times past. Pets have delighted and enriched people’s lives for hundreds of years, and the exhibition opens this history of pet care, where our furry and hairless friends are the center. You can also take a look at the pets of the museum staff at the exhibition.

In addition to the home museum interior, the Women’s Works exhibition, which opened in the autumn, is on display in Marela. The exhibition presents the work and life of women through the object collections of the Rauma Museum.

Rauma Lace basic exhibition of the Old Town Hall has received lace treasures from the collections of the Rauma Museum. The oldest laces on display are from the early 19th century. The heyday of hand-made lace lasted in Rauma from the end of the 18th century to the middle of the 19th century.

The upper floor of the Old Town Hall is closed due to the exchange of exhibitions until 1st of June. During the summer, the 50th anniversary exhibition of Kosti Koskinen – The Diary of the Man in the Street will move from the Rauma Art Museum to the premises. A version of the exhibition will be adapted for the historic exhibition spaces and courtyard upstairs in the Old Town Hall. The exhibition is open from 1st of June to 19th of September 2021.

Rauma Museum’s Old Town Hall (Kauppakatu 13) and Marela (Kauppakatu 24) are open Tue – Fri 12–17 and Sat – Sun 11–16. The doors of the Sailor’s Home Museum Kirsti (Pohjankatu 3) will open on 18th of May 2021. The museum will move to summer opening hours at the beginning of June. 1.6–31.8. The Old Town Hall is open every day from 10 am to 5 pm, Marela and Kirsti Tue – Sun from 10 am to 5 pm.
